Without a doubt this past season has seen its challenges. Half way through the season I had a conversation with a good friend. He asked me how my season had been going. Stage 17 (Thursday)Thursday was a bit of a travel day jumping from bus to train to train to taxi all in order to get to lausanne, Switzerland. After settling into the hotel we took a bus down to the race briefing which took place at the Olympic Museum. Quick run on the course and off to dinner.

On July 21st, 1989, during the Tour De France, Greg LeMond won stage 19 in a sprint finish from a small breakaway group here in Aix-Les-Bains. Again in 2001 a stage finished here with a Dutch win by Michael Booderd. This place has some awesome history. I began looking at a map.

Today’s stage consisted of some activation in the morning both in Aix Les Bains and on course in Geneva. Later in the day would be our biggest adventure of the trip.

Stage 7 is a rest/travel day. Like in the tour a rest day does not mean going to sit in a coffee shop, sipping Kave espresso or sampling the large selection of Hungarian pastries. Nope today I hit the roads for a jog through the streets finishing off with a massage which was the perfect pre-flight send off.

In the race hotel heading down to the continental breakfast is always fun. The rooms are packed with cliques of different languages and nationalities. Yesterday morning I competed in my first Duathlon. Sadly the swim was canceled due to some incredible waves that we surely would not have survived had we swam in them. Yesterday we were off to a running start. Nice short run in the am followed by a very difficult swim in the ocean. This was not necessarily a hard workout, mother nature was simply whipping up the ocean. Some strong winds and powerful current absolutely beat us up the entire 4km workout. In that, as seen on the cover of the Times Colonist (Click Here) I return home with the swim prime but in doing so this was most likely was the reason for my DNF. What a brilliant event this has and is going to be.  Staring with an awesome course. Non wetsuit, 28.5 minimum degree water! The bike is absolutely wicked with a very criterium style section near the transition. Including; two hard rights, a hard left, a chicane and then a hard left all within about a km.
